The Walking Ned
Visibility / Location:
Stairway to Insanity is located at the St. Viator rec center, located down the block from the school itself. Look for the blow up creatures outside the building.
There wasn't much for wait entertainment, the night I attended.
Since people move through haunted attractions at different rates, your time will vary. Note: The time shown here represents the actual time spent moving forward through the attraction. Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.
LPR Score = 1.750
LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Actual quality and/or entertainment value of an event are not factors in this calculation. Click Here to see how this event compares to others visited this year by the staff of HauntedIllinois.com.
Smooth. I was the only person there when I arrived.
Stairway to Insanity starts with a woman dressed like a clown in the front, taking your ticket. Next room is an actor, and you get to spin a wheel where it decides the theme of your visit. I unfortunately got "more screaming," which then I instantly regretted.
You are then led in to a twisting and turning feast of the eyes, where you never know where the scares are going to come from. They had everything you would expect in a haunt, just on a smaller scale, but equally as scary. And, like I stated above, you never know where the scares are coming from. Some coming from the walls, some from random places you never expect in the room, which I definitely enjoyed.
I am keeping this vague intentionally, because I don't want to give away a lot of secrets, but they even have an inventive way to use the laser that goes across the room, hiding the actors underneath ready to pop out at you.
A lot of the actors in here are children, which helps make it a lot of fun, and helps them hide better, because the haunt itself is in an enclosed area, so the rooms are smaller and closer together than in a usual haunt, but don't let that make you not want to visit this house, because it was one of the more fun houses I have visited this season.
Stairway to Insanity is a great example of doing haunts on a budget, but still doing them really well. This is definitely a haunt to hit if you are on a budget, and definitely one of my favorite haunts of this season.
