Visibility / Location:
Having never been to Chebanse before, I followed my Google Maps app with the address listed on the haunt's Facebook, and was pleasantly surprised to find it barely a half mile from the exit off I-57. There was no roadside signage that I could see, but the Chebanse Civic Center (where the haunt is located) was hard to miss- a very large, turn of the century brick building with two colored flood lights at the front highlighting a sign that says 'Haunted House' and an arrow pointing to the east side door. Parking was on the open streets in front of and surrounding the civic center, and was quite full when we arrived.
The entrance to the haunt is through the minimally decorated civic center gymnasium, where there is plenty of room for lingering socializers, a unisex bathroom, and a concession table selling snacks (proceeds go to Gigi's House). The ticket line is located through a hallway to the right. Please keep in mind that ticket sales are cash only. In the fifteen minutes we were in line, there ere two actors in masks stalking the crowd.
$10 Price includes the haunt itself.
Since people move through haunted attractions at different rates, your time will vary. Note: The time shown here represents the actual time spent moving forward through the attraction. Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.
LPR Score = 3.501
LPR stands for Length/Price Ratio. It represents perceived value of an event, by comparing length vs price of admission. Higher numbers represent more value per dollar. Groups of six or less were allowed through the haunt at a time, and left to go at our own pace. While we didn't run into any other groups, there were a few extremely dark areas that could potentially cause choke points or turn-arounds.
From the stairwell where we were given the general rules of the haunt, we were led into a small room decorated in the classic 'hotel horror' style with a receptionist in minimal make-up who screamed and banged at us with some impressive enthusiasm-- the same sentiment could be shared for every actor we encountered the next five minutes through the haunt. The narrow passages force guests into single-file procession through extremely dark and twisting spaces, lit only by the occasional strobe; we were harassed on all sides by banging, screaming, roaring actors behind the walls, over our heads, and coming out of the dark like a blitz. The Hard and Fast tactic was seriously effective in setting the mood. Eventually we were herded into a tiny closed room labeled 'elevator', and the door closed behind us- warning to those with claustrophobia issues- without giving away the scare, just know that it is NOT an elevator. From there, we were forced through more narrow, dark passages and assaulted by enthusiastic monsters and jump-scare effects like wind puffs and loud noises. There were a few 'scene' rooms with gore-horror decorations and actors in costume, and several areas where guests are forced to feel their way through camouflaged doors to advance. Later in the haunt was a set of rooms and hallways designated as a zombie research facility, but it was more sparsely populated with actors as I had expected from the earlier hallways. There was no overall theme to the haunt, but the jump-scare and tension factors were definitely up there on the scale. I would recommend this haunt for ages 13 and up.
