The Walking Ned
Visibility / Location:
13th Floor is right off of North Avenue. There is a sign on North Avenue, but the usual billboard sign was not up close to the house. You can park in the mall right next door, and they have a parking lot right across the street.
There were several actors lurking about scaring the patrons. The main waiting area inside is set up as a combination of both a church and a cemetery, and it is very spooky. There is a giant demon right above the gateway inside.

Time spent waiting in queue lines, staging areas, intro scenes, rules rooms and when traffic jams cause patrons to come to a halt, has been subtracted.

Smooth. I went by myself, and never ran in to anyone.
The beginning of the house starts out in a cemetery, with several twists and turns. The atmosphere enhanced the entrance, with the illusion of being in a foggy area, well equipped for places to have some of the actors pop out at you.
The cemetery then leads in to an area more like a crypt that was really well done. They had many good areas to for a good pop out, and the actors were more than ready to scare you. It stayed especially dark, and the smoke machines were going to keep the mood spooky and scary.
This led in to an inside church area, that had a good pulpit area, and the theme of this year was nuns. There ended up being a lot of nuns throughout the cemetery and church area, all of them a little different, and each brought their own personality to their nun character. Very well done.
This then led in to a barber shop room, which then went in to a bar, where there were actors were ready to either give you a VERY close shave, or make you drink their specific brand of poison!
This led in to the decrepit house, complete with your typical room, dirty kitchen, disgusting bathroom, all really well made up to look like some bad things happened in those rooms, and never cleaned up. They did have a room that went up on a 45 degree angle, where you practically had to climb the side to get to the top, then hang on to the bar for dear life.
You then go to an outside area, which leads you back inside to a house dining area, which looked very decrepit, and that is a good thing. This was another great room where the attention to detail was amazing.
After this part, they had a room that had a laser going across the room where you could not see the lower part of the room. I thought it was pretty cool, and to have a person crouching ready to jump up and scare you was also great.
Next, they had a secondary house, called the Dead End District. This was made to have more of a slick wall, spaceship type area at the beginning. This led in to a dining area, and then led in to more a living room type area. The whole area gave off this very moody atmospheric creepy feeling.
Next, we had a butcher shop, with some of the worst choices in top cuts I have ever seen! After that this led in to a room that had video cameras all over it, giving you the feeling you were being watched the whole time. Soon, after there was a room covered in giant bats, I enjoyed this because it was something I had never seen in any houses.
Then they had an area that seemed like a museum tribute to all the big Universal monsters, which, again, I thought was a nice touch, because you don't see this in most houses.
After this, they had their spinning room, but, again, they do theirs different. Instead of bright lights, they have strobes at the beginning and end, and the spinning part looks like you are buried alive, with skulls and bones around the sides of it for a creepy effect.
After that, you are led in to another butcher area, with some good, or not so good, carcasses hanging off the ceiling. Then, you go into the open area where they have oil drums all over the place, making loud noises to scare you. This leads in to a chop shop area, where they have several vehicles all over to have good hiding places for actors to pop out and give you a scare. That lead in to a casino area, where I expected a person to pop out behind something, but nothing happened. This went back in to the chop shop, which then led in to the hospital area.
The hospital area consisted of a doctor's office area, where the doctor was waiting to give you a very terminal diagnosis. After that, they had a pharmaceutical area where there were shelves covered with some of the worst prescriptions you would ever want to take. After that, the dissection area, with some of the nastiest corpses they could create.
Finally, it ends with a factory area, again filled with fog, so you can't see where the next scare is coming from. And, is that a chainsaw I hear?
Overall, I enjoyed 13th Floor. The rooms are really well done, and, like I said numerous times above, the attention to detail was amazing. People were ready to pop out at you and scare you. The actors themselves have really committed to character, and the make-up is well done. I do feel there were some places that I thought people would scare you, and nothing happened, but overall, I thought it was a good house. If you have been to this house in the past, I feel they improved both the quality of the rooms, as well as more scares.
