Terror On The Square Presents Terror In The Graveyard
Menard County Fairgrounds

Visibility / Location:

Google Maps is very accurate with directions to Terror in The Graveyard. It's located at the Menard County Fairgrounds, right outside of city limits. On route 97 there are a couple signs directing you to the haunt, however, they are poorly lit. Some brighter lights would help tremendously. After turning into the fairgrounds, it was pretty dark and we weren't real sure where we needed to go to park. We just drove until we saw some cars parked in the grass and pulled in.

Wait Entertainment:

While you wait, they have a concession stand with food and drinks. There's also a small Terror Shoppe to purchase shirts and other scary items. A grunting zombie walked through the line scaring the unsuspecting. There was also a young girl, dressed in all black that stealthily walked along the side of the line and belted out a blood curdling scream. No matter how many times she did, she scared a majority of us standing there. When you get to the front of the line, there is a nice fire pit to keep you warm.

Scare Factor:

Crowd Control:

Crowd control was perfect, never saw or even heard any other groups.

I must admit, I wasn't looking forward to Terror in the Graveyard because of a bad experience during the previous season. This year, completely different story. We were guided by a black cloaked woman. She gave us the back story of the haunted cemetery. The trail was lined with glass jars and candles and gave enough light to see where we were going, but kept it dark enough that we didn't see any of the scares coming at us. Our guide was kidnapped after the first couple minutes on the trail.

The trail was very creepy. At times it would get real quiet and you knew something was going to happen. All the actors were hidden very well and you never saw them coming. I really like the use of low lights and fog, it really added to the scare factor. Walking through the woods was scary enough by itself, let alone with the actors coming out of nowhere. I always enjoy a haunt that uses the good old fashion scare tactics versus the high-tech stuff. This haunt's location pushed the scare factor to high, the woods really set the scene and made the whole story and characters very believable. They did a fantastic job this year and I can't wait to see what come about next season!
