2017 Transworld Halloween & Attractions Haunt Show Review

In late March, the staff of attended Transworld's Halloween & Attractions Show in St. Louis, Missouri. This event featured an impressive array of seminars, vendor booths, live demonstrations & industry panels, along with a variety of after-hours activities. Because of what the Halloween & Attractions Show has to offer, many haunt industry professionals consider it a "must attend" event.

This year the vendor area was even bigger and better than ever. Before attending, we had heard that it was larger and that was certainly not an exaggeration. The footprint of the show floor had really grown since last year and according to the Transworld website, there were more than 275 vendors exhibiting.

One area of the show floor was called Escape Room City and was dedicated to companies that cater to the escape room industry. Escape rooms have become quite popular over the past few years and a lot of haunted attraction owners are using them to generate income in the off-season. If you aren't familiar with this trend, escape rooms are physical adventure games where participants collect clues & solve puzzles, in order to complete various objectives, with the ultimate goal of escaping the room. Vendors in this section offered design services and supporting props. Some were even selling turnkey mobile escape room units.

On the other end of the show floor was the Dark Zone. Depending on who we talked to, that section seemed to get mixed reviews. Some people we spoke with seemed pleased with it, while others commented that it wasn't as impressive as it had been in the past.

In another area in the middle of the show floor stood the VIP lounge. This year, Ghost Ride Productions was the lounge's official prop designer. They worked in collaboration with the creative builders from Zombie Army Productions to create a fantastic set that looked like a huge post-apocalyptic bunker. Surrounded by large crisscrossed wooden stakes and barbed wire, it was like something you might see on the popular television series "The Walking Dead". Inside the lounge, VIP ticket holders were treated to snacks, refreshments and free Wifi, while they rested on comfortable couches.

Another feature that stood out on the vendor floor was a large square booth used for the Third Annual Don't Be A Monster Charity Auction. Multiple tables were filled with products, which were donated by more than 100 Transworld vendors. With so many items on display, there was something for everyone and all of the proceeds went to a good cause. Don't Be A Monster is a bullying prevention nonprofit company that works with haunted houses throughout the U.S. to deliver free and low cost assemblies for students in grades 4-10.

The rest of the show floor was jam-packed with vendors providing all kinds of products and services to benefit haunted attraction owners.

Throughout this review, you will find more than 560 pictures and 43 video clips. The pictures taken on the show floor are sorted alphabetically by company name and each picture includes a link to the vendor website, so you can check out all they have to offer. All of the video clips are also labeled with the company name & hyperlink.
