13th Floor Haunted House Chicago
1940 George St
Melrose Park, IL 60160

Visibility / Location:

13th Floor is right off of North Avenue. There are flashing lights, and plenty of signs once you get closer to the house. You can park in the mall right next door, and they have a parking lot right across the street.

Wait Entertainment:

There were several actors lurking about scaring the patrons. The main waiting area inside is set up as a combination of both a church and a cemetery, and it is very spooky. They had a animatronic demon above, as well as two animatronic gargoyles on either side of the gate entrance.

Smooth. Although, I have to say that my group was the first one in the house.

Summary:

The beginning of the house starts out in a cemetery, with several twists and turns. The atmosphere enhanced the entrance, with the illusion of being in a foggy area, well equipped for places to have actors pop out at you.

This then leads in to a forest area, well done with fake moss and burlap coming down on the walls, and the fog lingers, helping with the illusion that you are truly walking through a wooded area.

The next part is set up in to rooms like a spooky apothecary setting, and a great library room. The details in these rooms are top notch, they took the time to really make the rooms look spooky, messy and scary. There is a room at the end that is built on an angle, which throws you off and makes it a little more jarring to get across. That leads in to another cave like area, complete with bumpy mossy walls which adds to the realism of the room.

Then you go in to a slatted wood area in to a dark maze. The slatted wood walls worked well with the lighting, giving off great shadows throughout the area. The dark maze had plenty of twists and turns that really helped to confuse you on which way to go.

Next, there is a great outdoor forest area, again filled with foggy areas and some twists and turns and plenty of areas to have monsters pop out at you. I feel there could have more creatures to pop out at us, but I think the area filled up more with monsters as the night went on.

Next there was a clown area, complete with a fun house motif that included another angled floor, which I found jarring with all the lights and noises in the area. I thought this was the best part of the house, because, really, who doesn't like clowns in their haunted houses.

This led in to the decrepit house, complete with your typical room, dirty kitchen, disgusting bathroom, all really well made up to look like some bad things happened in those rooms, and no one had a chance to clean up. Really great attention to detail. The slaughterhouse was next, complete with meat hanging down off the walls, and a butcher always ready to add you to the next order of food!

Their version of the spinning room was next, and instead of the usual lights and fluorescent paint to disorient you, theirs was set up more like a spinning cave, with bones and bodies coming out of the sides, which I thought was interesting and different from your normal spinning rooms.

That led in to the oil drum area, complete with totaled cars and great areas for people to make noise to scare you, and some great areas to pop out. Next is the hospital, which has all the great rooms in it, including several patient rooms where bad things are happening to the patients. They also had set up a room that looks like the morgue rooms, complete with doors to have people pop out at you. It end with a courtroom setting, and if the judge doesn't like you, he has a bailiff with a chainsaw ready to pass judgment on you!

Overall, I enjoyed 13th Floor. The rooms are really well done,
and there was some good monsters ready to pop out at you and scare you. The actors themselves have really committed to character, and the make-up is well done. I do feel there were some places that I thought people would pop out, and nothing happened, but overall, I thought it was a good house.
