On July 9, 2016, HauntedIllinois.com hosted its Third Annual Haunter Horde event at the
Bristol Renaissance Faire,
which is about an hour North of Chicago in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The perfect weather combined with our generous
sponsors and our local haunter attendees made for a stupendous day at the Faire!
As soon as the Faire Royalty opened the gates, eager haunters were at the Cotswold Commons ready to sign in and pick up their raffle tickets and their scavenger hunt list. Cotswold Commons is a party space which can be reserved for special events, and it is a coveted space due to the lack of seating near the Faire's countless food vendors. Our scavenger hunt list had thirteen items that could be found throughout the village streets, in the ambient shops, or on Renaissance period costumes. This year, we made the list a little bit more difficult due to the increase in prizes. The possible rewards included a 6 foot tall devilish werewolf crucifix donated by Blood Brood FX, a custom made mask donated by Screams In the Park/Disturbia, a gnarly pumpkin walking stick donated by From Art to Zombies, and a weathered coffin lid donated by Asylum Coffin Co.
During our numerous scheduled gatherings at the Commons, we raffled off multiple prizes from even more generous sponsors; namely, Asylum Coffin Co, Chicago Frights, Closed Casket Studios, Evil Intentions Ghost Tours, Fables Fright Nights, Master Fog, Midnight Syndicate, Nightmare on Chicago Street, Pale Night Productions, Stuartizm Designs, and Zombie Outbreak. As usual, our attendees kept their fingers crossed waiting for their ticket number to be called. We had a lot of happy people walking up to the prize tables to redeem their prizes.
We also invited our guests to partake in the Character Creation Contest, wherein participants had their photos taken in costume and our judges picked three winners. At the end of the day, we announced our contest winners and they received their gift cards from Fright Props, another greathearted sponsor of our event.
This year, we decided to add a "Dead Silent" auction, which boasted a complete airbrush kit donated by Paasche Airbrush Co. , and voice-over work donated by the talented Night Frights . The proceeds from the silent auction, in addition to donations made by attendees, were donated to Scares That Care and Don't Be a Monster, both of which are 501(c)(3) organizations. HauntedIllinois.com promised to match donations, so in total, we were able to donate over $700.00 to these charities!
Our Haunter Horde group was created to promote synergy and diversity within the haunted attraction industry, and to provide haunters with the opportunity to network and visit with each other. It is such a unique crowd of people, and we believe that when we combine our mutual strangeness for a good cause, we can make positive things happen in our community. This year's Haunter Horde event has really been a testament to that initial belief. We are so incredibly proud of our attendees and of our benevolent sponsors. In addition to the charitable sponsors listed above, we would like to thank Haunted Attractions Network, Big Scary Show and Pixel Pushers for assisting us in getting the word out about our group and our event. Without the support of our honorable sponsors, we would not be able to provide this lively event to countless haunters, nor could we share the love with our aforementioned charities.
